autumn

Autumn is starting to creep up on my little hometown.

It's always been my favorite season-- school supplies, sweaters, hot chocolate, and apple pie are some of my very favorite things, and autumn is the perfect season for them.

The leaves here are starting to change-- it's almost time for cardigans and tights and woolly socks!

But as much as I love fall, I'm not looking forward to the shorter days and chilly nights.

I'll just have to make sure I have lots of cozy quilts to curl up in.

And in the meantime, I'll squeeze in as many walks to the park and sundresses as I can.

It's been autumn for quite some time now, but it's finally starting to feel like it here in Manhattan.

Between getting caught in the rain at least three times in a week and a half and Anthropologie's amazing outerwear sale, I thought it was a good time to get something I've been pining after for weeks...

....the Heritage Raincoat from Anthropologie.  I mentioned here that I was going to go try it on to see if it was worth all the obsessing I was doing, which I didn't actually do because I was afraid I would fall madly in love with it and then it would never go on sale and I would never get it.  Turns out that was a good decision, because I did fall madly in love with it.  Yay!  Even though it's technically a raincoat, it's waxed cotton instead of anything plastic-y, so it's functioning as my fall coat, too.  The pockets are lined with the butterfly-print flannel, too, so they're nice and cozy.

I'm not usually one for posting photos of outfits, but I wanted to show how it looks on a person rather than how it looks in the website photo.  It's an a-line coat in a thick-ish fabric, so belting it like a trench makes it look weirdly bulky.  I like tying the belt in the back instead, it's much more flattering.  Plus it makes me feel like the girl in this beautiful illustration...

Speaking of trenchcoats, I have one that needs a new home.  It's the Classic Case Jacket from Modcloth.com, by Jack by BB Dakota (no longer available on Modcloth).

I love it, but the shoulders are too narrow for me.  Worn once, in perfect condition, and I still have the included replacement button.

via the little things we do

1.   One thing that is completely superfluous, but that I could never give up is: my Dinkie Dino virtual pets.  I only get the urge to fire them up every few years, but they're by far the cutest ones put out during that craze.

2.  When there's a big crowd to get into the elevator as I'm trying to come out and I have to try to battle my way through them it makes me feel awkward.

3.  I can't pass an Anthropologie without at least stopping to see the window displays.

4.  Tea and rice cakes with hummus  is my favorite snack.

5.  Lately I've been listening to Pandora a lot.  My favorite stations are based around The Pipettes, A Fine Frenzy, and Yann Tiersen.

6.  If at first you don't succeed walk away from it for a little while, don't keep trying the same thing while getting more and more upset.  Sometimes a change of scene makes something click and everything makes sense.

7.  Fall is my favorite season to get dressed during.  Tights and wooly socks and boots and cardigans and airy scarves, I am so ready for you.
