Thank you so much for all the graduation well-wishes, everyone, and thank you so much for joining me on the past four years and into the future. Your support and kind words mean so much to me.
For the past few years, I've really wanted a tattoo of a button, and I figured that with graduation coming up, now was the time to actually do it. It's tiny, just the size of a penny, and on the outside of my left ankle just behind the ankle bone. I absolutely love it. The color is perfect and the shading is beautiful. It was done by Wendi-- when I saw her portfolio I knew I wanted to work with her because her illustrations and tattoos are both so pretty and charming. And she is so sweet, she made me feel totally comfortable even though I'd never so much as set foot in a tattoo studio before my consultation last week.
I was worried about getting a tattoo because I am a notorious chicken when it comes to needles-- shots, getting blood drawn, anesthesia, I get completely terrified. But this wasn't bad at all-- the feeling of vibration was much stronger than the pain. And I knew going into it that it would be worth any pain, because not only did I get my button to commemorate graduating from school, but also in remembrance of my dad. I sketched out a button with four holes to represent the four members of my immediate family (my parents and my brother, Zach), and with a raised edge to signify the sort of-- bubble the four of us traveled in when we were together, no matter where we were. The music playing while I was getting the tattoo done was pretty great, too. "The Weight," by The Band, "Like a Rolling Stone," by Bob Dylan, and "Brown-Eyed Girl," by Van Morrison, all played in a row-- three songs that my dad always sang and played on his guitar in our living room and at family gatherings. It was a wonderful final touch on something that already meant a lot to me.
And then it was done! I'm so excited that my little green button will be there every time I look at my ankle for the rest of my life. How crazy is that! Now all that's left to do is study French in preparation for tomorrow morning, my last final...ever. Yay!
I hope it's as sunny and lovely wherever you're reading this as it is here!
My Valentine's Day post was pretty much completely about romantic love.
So today let's take it in a different direction and talk about things I love (and things you love! leave them in the comments!).
♥the view of the Empire State Building from my bed-- especially on Valentine's Day, when it was red and pink!
♥getting quality Mom-time last weekend. We had so much fun and listened to so much good music and had delicious food like the phenomenal bouillabaisse at Lillie's. And she gave me a Valentine's Day card with cat stickers! She knows me so well.
♥finishing all my homework by 10 pm and having a few hours to blog, crochet, watch movies, read-- anything!
♥A Fine Frenzy. I go in phases with Alison Sudol's beautiful music. I listen to the same few songs over-and-over-and-over and then I don't listen to them for months. Right now I am in l-o-v-e with these two.
'steel and concrete break beneath the steady waves of fearless hope and grace, in kindness there is strength.'
this is life-philosophy material.
♥getting closer to spring and waking up to sunshine instead of darkness
♥little signs that my Dad is still looking out for me
♥peanut butter and homemade strawberry jam and cold milk.
♥New York Fashion Week! I'm putting together a 'favorite's of fashion week' post so you can see what caught my fancy. (hint: it's a lot of full skirts and pastels. shocking.)
♥having an internship that I'm excited to spend extra days at. I can't believe how lucky I was with this one! For newer readers, I intern at Allison Parris New York, with the lovely little group of ladies in the design studio. And it is seriously wonderful.
♥that feeling of waking up and realizing I cleaned my room the night before.
♥my morning cup of tea! lately I'm on a peppermint kick.
♥twinkle lights. I keep mine up year-round. They give just enough light to read by, but little enough light that turning off all my other lights for half an hour before bed makes me relaxed and sleepy.
I love snow. I love looking at it, I love walking around in it, I love feeling it on my face like hundreds of little kisses. I love bundling up and going outside and getting giddy with cold and then coming in and shedding the layers of scarves and hats and mittens and drinking tea.
So far, I made my first trip of the new year over to The Ink Pad, my local scrapbooking/stationery/washi tape store to pick up some little treats, went to Trader Joe's to replenish my supply of pink lady apples, bananas, and animal crackers (I have the palate of a mildly discerning six-year-old), and came home and put my groceries away. Next up: a hot shower and settling in to work on my crocheted flower blanket while alternately listening to back episodes of the WTF podcast and watching Stargate on Netflix.
This is just my favorite kind of day.
What are some of your favorite snow day activities?
